About AutoTech Reasoning
AutoTech Reasoning is a website dedicated to electricity, electronics and modern automotive diagnostics.
A sound diagnosis does not rely solely on procedures, fault codes or values read from a diagnostic tool. It depends first and foremost on understanding the system, performing relevant tests and distinguishing what a measurement actually proves from what it merely suggests.
Understand before drawing conclusions
Modern vehicles rely on increasingly complex architectures: communication networks, interconnected control units, sensors, controlled actuators, power electronics, and hybrid and electric systems.
Faced with this complexity, following a procedure is not always enough.
The aim of AutoTech Reasoning is therefore to refocus on technical reasoning: understand how a system is expected to operate, identify the information that is genuinely useful, choose the appropriate tests and build a conclusion from the observed facts.
Measurement as evidence
A voltage, a resistance, a waveform or data transmitted by a control unit is meaningful only if we understand what it actually establishes.
A test can confirm one hypothesis, rule out another or merely show that a component operates under certain conditions. It may also be insufficient to support a conclusion.
The site therefore places considerable emphasis on measurement methods, their interpretation and their limitations.
From principles to real-world cases
AutoTech Reasoning covers both fundamental principles and real diagnostic situations.
Electricity, electronics, sensors, actuators, control units, communication networks, testing methods, diagnostic tools and electrified architectures are all approached with the same logic: understand the system before interpreting what is observed.
The articles are not successive chapters of a textbook. They can be read independently and link to one another whenever a principle, method or line of reasoning warrants further exploration.
No recipes or artificial certainty
AutoTech Reasoning is not intended to provide a universal procedure that automatically links a symptom or fault code to a repair.
Two apparently identical faults may have different causes. The same measurement may have a different meaning depending on the system architecture and the conditions under which it was taken.
The aim is therefore not so much to provide a ready-made answer as to provide the elements needed to build and verify a line of reasoning.
An approach grounded in real-world diagnostics
The site’s content draws on hands-on automotive diagnostic practice, complemented by the study of how systems operate and how measurements are performed.
The cases presented are not intended to show that a particular fault has a reproducible solution, but to illustrate an approach: observe, understand, measure, test hypotheses against the facts and draw a conclusion only when the available evidence supports it.
